Progressing your personal practice

In Ron Fletcher's words, "You can't give away what you don't got." As teachers of this work, it's vital to continue your Fletcher Pilates education. Ask questions here about how best to do so.

  1. Well the April Mat III gauntlet has been thrown down by kyria and Jenna and it seems everybody has risen to the challenge to varying degrees.
In Melbourne we have committed to swapping at least one private session with each other per week as well as trying to fit in as much Mat III as possible.Coming out of the Easter Chock-fest and back onto the mat tomorrow may be a challenge in itself :-)
Here is a quick roundup of what is happening at different studios-
Studio 4 - Half Moon Bay
"Just and idea for a staff challenge that we have been doing at S4P. We asked all teachers to do 2 workouts per week for the month. One of them can be independent, but the other one has to be either a group class, equipment, or private. (They all get free group classes as staff). We have a chart in the back with everyone's name on it and they put a star sticker each time they do complete a workout. At the next monthly staff meeting we awarded prizes--(we bought gift cards for Peets Coffee). It cost the studio a small amount, but everyone loves rewards they can actually use. It also helped us get our teacher to keep up with learning from one another in a class format--not just independent workouts."

Aida Zorrilla - Studio A - San Antonio, Texas
"In our studio, the teachers encourage one another to practice what we preach...literally, through individual and group practices. We're also going on a year + of a standing weekly Studio A teachers' class. We also invite any Fletcher teachers from surrounding studios to join in when their schedules allow. It's also nice to feel that you embody the work not only during a session, but throughout the day in the studio and outside the studio as well"

Sagrario - The Studio Pilates - Toronto
"Since I started with the Fletcher program I made a time to practice the material twice a week with the instructors for one hour and I run at list three times a week and I used to do Mat III three times a week but now I do it every day with my husband he does beginer and when he rest I do the rest so is fun I help him and I keep my workout moving, ah! weights twice a week after my runs uf! good workouts.

Jacquline Ethier - Pilates Space - Ottawa
I've been scheduling in 2 runs/per week while I'm training for another dance performance in June. I can't do Mat III every day BUT I'm fitting it in once/week which is good. And since last year, we've managed to keep a regular weekly teachers' workout which has been great for team spirit!

  2. From the Hong Kong crew:
Just to let you know that we aren't slacking here
in Hong Kong. In fact for the last 3 years we
have set aside 11-1 on Fridays for teacher
training. Since Lyndsay and Cindy have qualified
we preselect issues, concerns, themes or pieces
we want to look at in detail and we teach each
other as duets or just move as a trio taking it
in turns to lead the movement.
We always try to make it a combination of flowing
movement and anlysis that deepens our
    understanding.
